Another clean sweep for JK Rolling
The intermediate race reports pretty much write themselves this year.
In the intermediate class, runaway championship leaders JK Rolling once again topped the time sheets. They set the eighth overall fastest time, mixing it with the top premier and clubman teams. DDMM Barnstormers were second fastest in class but some way further down the grid. After their maiden podium at Llandow, Wisper were once again on form and set the third fastest time. G3Pro G360, The Slim Fat Boys, Team JAWS and All Torque Torro Rosso made up the rest of the places.
The polesitters got away cleanly. DDMM Barnstormers likewise maintained position off the line. A good opening lap for G3Pro G360 saw them slot into third place ahead of Team JAWS and Wisper, who dropped a couple of places. The Slim Fat Boys and All Torque Rosso held station at the back as all 27 karts got around the first lap without any dramas.
JK Rolling immediately established their dominance and pulled away from the chasing pack. DDMM Barnstormers and G3Pro G360 both made an early stop. The slick G3 boys had a much faster pit stop and this allowed them to jump the Barnstormers. All this promoted Wisper into second place.
After the first round of stops had played out, JK Rolling had a good ten second lead over G3Pro, whose pit stop had moved them into second. They were a few seconds clear of team JAWS who had Wisper all over the back of them. The Barnstormers had fallen well down and were being forced to place catchup. They soon dispatched All Torque and The Slim Fat Boys and set after the front runners.
As the race approached half distance, Wisper had settled into third. Team JAWS had dropped back a few places during the second round of stops. DDMM Barnstormers were on a charge, however, and were closing the gap fast. Lap 83 saw the Barnstormers nip past and take third place. Their next target was G3Pro G360.
Over the second half of the race, JK Rolling continued to ease away at the front as they have every race this year. DDMM Barnstormers were pushing hard to catch up to the G3 boys and snatch second. Wisper were still looking strong in fourth but a late race penalty for multiple contact warnings dropped them further behind the Barnstormers and ended any slim chance they had of making it two consecutive podium finishes.
At the finish, JK Rolling cruised to another predictable and monotonous win. Despite their best efforts, DDMM Barnstormers couldn’t catch the G3 boys and had to settle for third.
The championship is already a foregone conclusion. Unless they suddenly decide to stop racing, JK Rolling are almost assured of the title now. The battle is really for second place with DDMM Barnstormers and G3Pro G360 very close on points. Despite their penalty, another solid result for Wisper sees them consolidate their fourth place in the standings.
