JEN iron man it to victory
JEN Racing take top honours in what looks to be a competitive year of Quads.
The second season of the Quadrant championship was at a bright and sunny – if a bit mildly freezing – Buckmore Park. With the top few teams from 2017 being promoted to class 1, it was difficult to pinpoint a favourite at this stage.
He aptly named French Team took the spoils in heat 1. Despite a one place penalty for molesting a cone they still finished just ahead of All Torque 1. TBD came home third, just managing to hold off Mobile Chicane who were fourth. Prancing Donkeys rounded out the top five.
There were many battles up and down the order and quite a few contact warnings being flashed up on the screen. Once the race settled down and everyone had got three months of rustiness off their shoulders the field spread out and there wasn’t much in the way of action further down the order.
Loose Heads and Prancing Donkeys lined up on the front row for race two. However, both slipped back over the first few laps. Mobile Chicane were soon on the move from grid 20 and by half distance they were up with the top three in class. JEN Racing were also making steady progress after a cautious opening lap. Making a break for it, they started making short work of the arts in front to get into the lead.
By the closing stages, Prancing Donkeys were back in contention but the gap to the leaders was too big to close down. So JEN took the win this time ahead of the Donkeys with Mobile Chicane some way further back in third.
All Torque 1 and The French team lined up on the front row for race 3. However it was the flying JEN Racing (iron manning it apparently) who made an epic start and swept through into the lead on the opening lap.
Behind this action, things once again spread out further down the order with Mobile Chicane pulling away from Prancing Donkeys, who themselves had a more than comfortable margin over the rest of the class 2 teams.
Back at the front and JEN Racing continued to pull away, mixing it with some of the class 1 teams. They won the race with a comfortable six second margin. All Torque 1 came home second, four seconds clear of The French Team.
The final race of the day saw All Torque 2 line up on pole. Sadly their race ended on lap five and they dropped to the back of the field. It wasn’t all doom and gloom for the All Torque squad as sister team All Torque 1 steadily made progress through the field to get themselves into the lead in class. JEN Racing were again having a competitive race and, providing they stayed where they were, it looked likely to be at least a top three finish overall.
The top two teams were in a class of their own and by half distance had pulled out a sizable gap to the teams behind. Prancing Donkeys, Loose Heads and Mobile Chicane were in a close battle and had themselves pulled out a gap to the rest of the field. Loose Heads had the edge and managed to get ahead as the race drew to a close.
At the flag, it was quite an easy win for All Torque 1. JEN Racing came home in second place and Loose Heads completed the top three.
With two wins and a second place to count, JEN Racing took the overall win. All Torque’s two seconds and a win gave them second place. If these results are anything to go by, these two teams may well be the ones to beat this year. The French Team took the final spot on the podium ahead of Prancing Donkeys and Mobile Chicane who completed the top five.
