Rookie win wasn’t in the script

Quadrant Championship 2018 – Class 2, Rd.11,

Neither title contender stood on the top step so the title gores down to the wire. It’s All Torque’s to lose now.

With the championship battle really a two horse race between All Torque 1 and JEN Racing, both would be looking for a strong result here. All Torque missed the last race which allowed JEN Racing an easy shot at the win, which they duly did. The battle was close as the teams entered the penultimate round of the season.

Race 1

The championship leaders took first blood and they won the opening race of the day comfortably from rookie RA Motorsport who, as a solo driver, looked rapid. Andy Dandy Racing would have been second but a 4 place penalty for contact dropped them to fourth behind 2T Racing.

Disaster struck for JEN racing. They had made good progress from the back of the grid and had got themselves into second in class but a spin on the penultimate lap dropped them to the tail of the field. One nil to All Torque.

Race 2

RA Motorsport went one better in race two and scored a convincing win from DH racing who, in turn finished a couple of seconds clear of 2T Racing. All these new names running at the front had certainly thrown a spanner in the works for the title protagonists. Mobile Chicane, having started fourth on the grid, finished fourth in class and one place ahead of JEN Racing. It was All Torque’s turn to have a bad race and an off on lap 21 relegated them to dead last. That made it one all, advantage All Torque.

Race 3

Race 3 saw a return to form for JEN racing and they took victory. Team JAWS were snapping at their heels all the way and finished just under two seconds behind. Another strong result for RA Motorsport in third made them (him) favourite for the overall win.

Behind the top three came Loose Heads CC Racing and 2T Racing. Having started second on the grid, All Torque 1 suffered another disaster and came home near the tail of the field and only ninth in class. 2-1 JEN Racing, definite advantage JEN. It all came down to the final race.

Race 4

RA Motorsport continued their impressive debut by not only dominating the final race but finishing second overall, battling hard with the leading class 1 teams. The finished fifteen seconds clear of second place which went to All Torque 1. Team JAWS actually crossed the line in second but they were awarded a one place penalty for emasculating one of the cones. Loose Heads came home fourth, one place ahead of JEN Racing who had dropped back after a sixth place starting position.

Final Result

With two wins and a second, it was a debut win for RA Motorsport. A cracking performance especially as a one-man show. Jen Racing’s heat three win helped them secure second. A below par day saw All Torque tie with 2T racing on points but the final podium position did go to the championship leaders by virtue of their heat one win.

JEN Racing managed to close the gap to All Torque by 5 points. This means that they are 20 points behind. Because both teams have missed two races this year, neither can afford a bad result at Buckmore. JEN are very much on the back foot and need to win the final race with All Torque finishing fifth or lower in order to win the championship. Personally I think All Torque have it wrapped up. Of course back in the day I had a reputation for cursing people whenever I said they had a race or a championship sewn up. They would always explode within a few laps. Sorry All Torque, you are screwed now.
